Beaded monkey in brick stitch

Monkey beaded in brick stitch

Holidays are coming sooner than you think! Maybe, it’s time to think about Christmas? As you know, the next 2016 year is the year of the Monkey in the Chinese zodiac. That's why today we will make a beaded monkey. It is a simple beadwork that can be made rather quickly if you have some experience in brick stitch bead weaving. This monkey, for example, can be used as a Christmas decoration or you can give it to your friends and family members as a Christmas gift. Everybody for sure will like it.

We will need:
- size 8 seed beads of six colors; I used seed beads of brown, pink, white, gray, red and black colors;
- nylon fishing line 0.25 mm thick and two beading needles (as usual in brick stitch, you can do with one needle only).

As I have already mentioned, for beading we will use the technique of brick stitch. I remind you that the basics of brick stitch weaving technique you can learn from this, this and this tutorials.

The beading pattern is provided below. Next we consider all the steps of weaving in detail.

For weaving you will need a line 1.8 m long. Start weaving the first row on the middle of the line because both ends of the line will be used in the process of beading.

Step 1.
For the first row choose the center row of the beadwork. For this row use the technique of ladder stitch and weave a single chain consisting of 13 seed beads in the following sequence: 4 brown, 2 pink, 1 red, 1 pink, 4 gray, 1 brown.

Step 2.
At the beginning of the row string 2 brown beads at once and then continue stringing beads one by one in the following sequence: 3 gray, 1 brown, 1 pink, 1 red, 1 pink, 2 white, 2 brown.

Step 3.
At the beginning of the row string 1 brown bead and then continue stringing beads one by one in the following sequence: 1 white, 1 black, 1 white, 2 pink, 2 brown, 2 gray, 3 brown.

Step 4.
The row consists of 2 brown beads, string them at once.

Step 5.
At the beginning of the row string 1 pink bead, then one more pink bead.

Step 6.
The row consists of 1 pink bead only.

Pass the line through the beads so that it comes out from the 3rd bead of the 3rd row (if we count from the end of the row).

Step 7.
At the beginning of the row string 1 brown bead, then 3 more brown beads one by one.

Step 8.
At the beginning of the row string 1 brown bead, then one more brown bead.

Step 9.
The row consists of 2 brown beads, string them at once.

Step 10.
At the beginning of the row string 1 brown bead, then one more brown bead.

Step 11.
The row consists of 2 pink beads, string them at once.

Step 12.
The row consists of 1 pink bead.

Pass the line through the beads so that it comes out from the nearest pink bead of the 3rd row.

Step 13.
At the beginning of the row string 1 brown bead and then continue stringing beads one by one in the following sequence: 1 brown, 2 white, 1 brown.

Step 14.
At the beginning of the row string 1 brown bead, then 3 more brown beads one by one.

Pass the line through the beads so that it comes out from the penultimate bead of the current row.

Step 15.
At the beginning of the row string 1 pink bead, then one more pink bead.

Step 16.
The row consists of 1 pink bead.

Weaving of the first half of the monkey is completed. Secure the line that was used for weaving (Step 17): pass it in a zigzag manner through several beads in the middle part of the beadwork and then trim it.

Then start weaving the second half of the monkey using the other end of the original line that comes out from the 1st row. The second half is the same as the first one, therefore the Steps from 18 to 32 are the same as the Steps from 2 to 16. After that secure the line (Step 33).

The beaded monkey is finished!
